The carbon fiber and titanium face feels buttery smooth, especially on flush drives, giving the paddle a soft, luxurious feel on impact, which is rare for power-oriented paddles with more aggressive surfaces.

Despite its smooth feel, the Flare Titanium packs enough power to drive the ball effectively. It strikes a great balance between power and control. You’ll get the pop when you need it, but the paddle won’t overpower your shots. It particularly excels in control-heavy scenarios, such as resetting shots or performing delicate dinks. Its higher twist weight provides extra stability, allowing off-center hits to still feel precise.

One standout moment for me was during fast exchanges at the non-volley-zone (NVZ). The Flare Titanium 16mm absorbed and redirected fast shots with ease, maintaining control without feeling too powerful or unmanageable. It handled both quick exchanges and slower resets seamlessly, while also providing enough power from the baseline for deep, forceful drives.

Visually, the Flare Titanium impresses with its gold-looking-titanium-laced surface, adding a flashy aesthetic. However, the muted gray edge guard and handle felt underwhelming in comparison to the vibrant face. I would have preferred a color scheme more aligned with the Flare Prime, which uses a white perimeter edge and handle for a sleeker contrast.

Flare Prime 14mm: Lightweight, Quick, and Surprisingly Plush

As a fan of 14mm paddles, I was excited to try the Flare Prime 14mm. Initially, I expected it to behave like other thin-core paddles, such as the CRBN 2X 14mm or PIKKL Hurricane Pro 14mm, but the Flare Prime quickly set itself apart.

Unlike other 14mm paddles that often feel stiff and overly "poppy," the Flare Prime offers a softer, more cushioned feel. It still delivers the sharpness and responsiveness you’d expect from a thinner paddle, but with a plushness typically found in thicker paddles. This softness made dinks and resets feel controlled and precise, setting the Flare Prime apart in terms of touch and finesse.

That said, the Flare Prime 14mm isn’t the most powerful paddle I’ve tested. While it’s fast and reactive during volleys, it doesn’t pack the same punch as more power-focused models like the CRBN 2X 14mm. This makes the Flare Prime a better fit for players who prioritize agility and control over brute force. Its lightweight design allows for quick maneuvering, but I did experience some twisting during off-center hits, especially on harder swings. This may be due to its lower twist weight and balance point, which keeps the paddle light but reduces stability during power shots.

The Flare Prime's low balance point adds to its nimble feel. Initially, I found the paddle caused a few pop-ups, likely because I’m used to paddles with more head weight. While it’s not the most powerful paddle on the market, it offers just enough pop to stay competitive during baseline rallies. In contrast, the Flare Prime 14mm is faster and more reactive, making it ideal for quick-hit situations, though it lacks the driving power from the baseline that the Titanium provides.

Personally, I think the gray mutes the vibe of the paddle, and I would have preferred a more contrasting color, like white or gold, to match the eye-catching surface of the paddle. Nevertheless, the overall design exudes a sense of durability and performance, fitting for a high-level paddle like the Flare Titanium.

Flare Prime 14mm: Minimalist and Modern

The Flare Prime 14mm goes in a different direction with a more minimalist design. Its clean black surface, paired with the sleek white edge guard and handle, creates a sharp, modern look. The surface texture of a paddle plays a key role in determining spin, ball control, and overall feel. Neonic has equipped the Flare Prime 14mm and Flare Titanium 16mm with distinct surface materials, each designed to optimize performance for different styles of play.

Flare Titanium 16mm: Titanium-Infused Surface

The Flare Titanium 16mm is a trailblazer in the pickleball market, featuring a unique titanium-infused standard shape (borderline "wide") body. The titanium layer provides a soft, plush feel similar to Kevlar but with more rebound and spring, giving the paddle a noticeable boost in power. Combined with multiple surface layers, the titanium infusion helps the paddle generate powerful shots while maintaining excellent touch for softer plays, such as dinks and resets. However, I can't verify that the surface actually contains titanium. I just don't know. These strands appear to be more fabric like, but my assessment is highly anecdotal. Yet, the surface pattern looks sharp!

To the touch, the titanium surface feels smooth, but it grips the ball effectively during spin shots. The combination of titanium, carbon fiber, and fiberglass ensures the paddle remains durable, responsive, and versatile—balancing power and control effortlessly. With a swing weight of 115.5 and a twist weight of 7.17, the Flare Titanium offers stability and consistency during even the fastest rallies. Its surface adds just enough drag to enhance ball control, without sacrificing any of the paddle's power.

Under magnification, the titanium weave becomes even more evident. At 100x magnification, you can see the weave's complexity, showing how the carbon fiber and titanium layers work together to create a seamless, power-generating surface. Zooming in to 1000x, the fine details reveal how the texture grips the ball, boosting spin potential on shots. Again, though, to me, it looks like a different color carbon fiber — but again — without molecular testing equipment, that assessment is anecdotal.

Flare Prime 14mm: Carbon Fiber and Fiberglass Blend

In contrast, the Flare Prime 14mm features a more conventional but highly effective blend of carbon fiber and fiberglass. This combination is designed for players who prioritize control and finesse. The fiberglass layer adds a slight cushion to the paddle, making it softer and more forgiving during delicate dinks and resets, while the carbon fiber adds enough rigidity to provide some punch when needed.

Though the surface feels smooth, there’s a subtle graininess that enhances spin control, especially noticeable during fast exchanges. The Flare Prime 14mm doesn't offer quite as much pop as the Titanium model, but its surface texture is ideal for players who focus on consistency and precision over raw power. This makes it perfect for those who spend a lot of time at the kitchen line, using quick reflexes and precise shot placement to gain an edge.

At 100x magnification, the carbon fiber weave becomes more visible, showcasing how the surface grips the ball for greater spin control. When zoomed in to 1000x, the tightly woven fibers reveal the paddle's unique balance of softness and durability, contributing to its ability to handle fast-paced net play with ease.

With a swing weight of 115.15 and a twist weight of 7.17, it offers an excellent mix of power and control, making it an ideal all-court paddle. The titanium-infused surface provides a soft, yet responsive feel, giving you both finesse and pop when needed.

While the paddle has a slight top-heavy feel, I found that this added weight actually improved its performance during power shots. As it’s well-tuned in its stock form, I didn’t feel the need to make any adjustments. Whether you’re focused on balance, maneuverability, or overall feel, the Flare Titanium 16mm delivers a smooth, solid performance right out of the box.

Flare Prime 14mm: Enhanced Control with Added Weight

The Flare Prime 14mm, with a lighter swing weight of 103.91 and a twist weight of 6.5, is designed for quick handling and fast reactions. While its agility and speed are great for fast-paced play, I noticed some twisting during high-speed volleys and off-center hits, which affected stability.

To improve its control, I added 3 grams of lead tape to each side of the paddle near the neck. This simple tweak drastically increased the paddle’s stability, reducing twisting and providing a more secure feel during hard shots. The added weight didn’t compromise the paddle’s speed, but it noticeably improved its balance and control, making it more reliable in high-intensity situations.

If you enjoy the lightweight feel of the Flare Prime 14mm but need a bit more stability, I highly recommend adding a small amount of lead tape. It’s a quick fix that makes a big difference in performance.
